My story
After college, I started an adventure travel company offering experiences like mountain biking across Morocco, trekking with Kyrgyz nomads, and rafting in Colombia. I had a lot of memories, but an empty bank account, so I joined a SaaS startup in Denver as Head of Product. In 2019, I moved to Portland and currently oversee a team of remote designers and developers building websites at 8020.
On the side, I write a free newsletter called the 🛶 The Maine Outsider, which curates the best outdoor activities happening around the state.
Why Maine?
I’m inspired by organizations like the Roux and GMRI that apply new technology and ideas to legacy industries like forestry and aquaculture. I think Maine has a bright future, especially as a model for developing natural climate solutions. In the coming year, I’m looking to shift from working remotely to contributing more directly to this entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Away from keyboard
I have a plot at the Payson Park community garden, mountain bike weekly, and go on excursions with my wife around the state. I enjoy reading biographies, natural history books, and anything that explores topics of living more sustainably.
Let’s talk
Always down to grab a coffee in town or get outside for a hike/bike/paddle. DM me on the Nexus Slack or email me at hi@maxjoles.com
Thank you for making this community special, everyone! See you on Slack.

Which program did you use to generate Baxter’s image, and is this an Easter egg suggesting that a Nexus podcast is afoot?!?
